Words, Works, and Wonders

Pages 64-78

TOGETHER read the book and the scripture.
INDIVIDUALLY take notes in your journal on what stands out.

Romans 10:14-15 (NIV) How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”

Galatians 6:10 (NIV) Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.

Hebrews 2:3-4 (NIV) How shall we escape if we ignore so great a salvation? This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him. God also testified to it by signs, wonders and various miracles, and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will.

TOGETHER pray for one another.

INDIVIDUALLY answer the questions in your journal - process your notes and pray.

  • Do you think each of us naturally tends towards one of words, works, and wonders? Which one resonates for you and why?

  • How can these three types of witnessing work together?

  • What is your personal “sweet spot” in being a witness, words, works, or wonders?

  • What would your letter to the street be like? Is anyone willing to write one and share it at the family meeting?

EXTRA READING:

“My whole desire was fixed upon one thing only - to say the Prayer of Jesus, and as soon as I went on with it, I was filled with joy and relief. It was as though my lips and my tongue pronounced the words entirely of themselves without any urging from me. I spent the whole day in a state of the greatest contentment. I lived as though in another world.”

- Way of the Pilgrim, a 19th-century Russian Work, author unknown

PRAYER:
Lord, teach us to pray without ceasing, even when words escape us, and to work toward your kingdom, even when we cannot see it. Amen.
